Power, Purges, and Payback: Trump’s Second-Term Blueprint

Welcome to the prequel of Gilead, where the laws are real, control is growing, and the script is being written in executive orders. This isn’t dystopian fiction—it’s the dry run. Women’s rights are being stripped under the guise of policy, freedom is filtered through ideology, and silence is the new civic duty. The Trump administration isn’t just flirting with authoritarianism—it’s building the infrastructure. And if you're waiting for the red cloaks to make it official, you're already too late.

 🚨 Punish, Purge, Repeat 🚨

What Happened: In a Truth Social post, Trump threatened Apple with a 25% tariff if they do not manufacture their products inside the United States. Producing iPhones solely in the United States would raise their price to $3,500 and greatly disrupt the supply chain. Though Trump believes the proposed tariff will better the economic standing of the country, experts agree that the tariff will bring anything but prosperity.

Why It Matters: Trump’s tariff threat to Apple exposes more than economic recklessness—it reveals a leader who substitutes impulse for policy. Instead of working with companies to strengthen supply chains or invest in domestic production over time, he chooses to antagonize them publicly with threats that would send prices soaring and destabilize global operations. There’s no strategy here, just spectacle. Consumers end up paying the price while Trump postures as a populist, even as his ideas alienate the very industries that drive the economy. It’s not leadership—it’s a temper tantrum in a business suit.

What Happened: The National Security Council (NSC) coordinates the president’s foreign policy agenda, but Trump is ignoring the NSC’s critical role by silencing its voice. The Trump administration’s recent firing of 100 NSC officials is the latest step in its broader overhaul. Both career officials and Trump appointees were let go by interim national security advisor Marco Rubio. With the notices sent out on the Friday before Memorial Day weekend, the administration conducted an unprofessional and intentionally quiet purge.

Why It Matters: Gutting the NSC leaves foreign policy in the hands of loyalists, not experts, and creates a dangerous vacuum where strategy is replaced with sycophancy. This isn’t just about job cuts—it’s about clearing the runway for Trump to make high-stakes decisions without dissent or oversight. When national security becomes a loyalty test, the entire country ends up vulnerable. And doing it quietly before a holiday weekend shows the administration knows exactly how reckless it is. Even after the embarrassing and dangerous blunder known as Signalgate, his administration is refusing any accountability within its national security decisions. All of this indicates a government more interested in control than competence.

What Happened: Due to a freeze in federal funds, budget cuts proposed in Congress, and state restrictions on abortions, Planned Parenthood is shutting down four clinics in Iowa and another four in Minnesota. The federal funds did not support abortions but helped increase access to birth control, cervical cancer screenings, and testing for sexually transmitted diseases. Planned Parenthood also cited cuts to Medicaid as a reason for the closures since low-income Americans will be left without federal assistance.

Why It Matters: The fight over reproductive rights extends deep into every part of women’s healthcare. The Trump administration’s attack on federal funding purposely misrepresents what the money supports, making it easier to slash vital services that save lives. It’s clear the real reason behind these cuts is control with the closure of abortion clinics standing as a calculated consequence. For many low-income women, these clinics are the only place to get care without going into debt. So when a clinic closes, it’s not just a service lost—it’s a message that women’s health isn’t a priority. And that message gets louder every time politicians use morality as a weapon and leave healthcare hanging in the balance.

What Happened: The Trump Administration plans to ask all federal agencies to end their contracts with Harvard—cancelling $100 million worth of funding—because of its allowance of free speech. This move follows the administration’s attempt to block Harvard from enrolling foreign students and past cuts to research funding. Neglecting the large returns to the American people Harvard’s research provides, Trump is disrupting the nation’s oldest university for political points.

Why It Matters: Cutting off funding because a university won’t police its students’ speech is a tactic pulled straight from authoritarian playbooks. This is a direct attack on constitutional rights masked as budget discipline, manipulating public money to silence dissent. Authoritarian interference in university education not only threatens academic independence but jeopardizes scientific research that benefits millions. From cancer treatments to climate data, Harvard’s work fuels innovation that saves lives and shapes global progress. Undermining that for political revenge doesn’t just hurt one institution—it sends a chilling warning to every university: align with power or prepare to be dismantled.

What Happened: FEMA has denied North Carolina’s request to match 100% of the state funds for Hurricane Helene cleanup, a procedure previously approved by Biden. This denial will cost the state’s taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars, meaning less money will be available to support small businesses, rebuild infrastructure, and fix sewer systems. Worsening the situation, Homeland Security of State Kristi Noem wants to get rid of FEMA entirely. Though Trump has criticized Biden for his supposed lack of disaster support, it's apparent the current administration has no regard for its citizens in need.

Why It Matters: When politicians talk about “cutting waste” this is what they mean—slashing disaster relief while protecting tax breaks for billionaires. With FEMA underfunded, understaffed, and reportedly unprepared for what could be a deadly 2025 hurricane season, the consequences of Trump’s lack of action are deadly. This denial isn’t an isolated decision—it’s part of a broader pattern that signals some communities are seen as expendable. It’s a dangerous bet that poor and working-class families will survive without the government’s help, even as storms grow stronger and infrastructure crumbles. Climate change is turning natural disasters into routine emergencies, but instead of rising to meet that challenge, this administration is backing away. What looks like “fiscal responsibility” on paper is really a disaster policy built on indifference, where survival depends less on need and more on political favor.

What Happened: Trump’s budget bill, if passed by the Senate, will cut access to Medicaid for over 275,000 transgender Americans who rely on the program to pay for gender-affirming surgery and hormone therapy. Additionally, the budget no longer requires that Affordable Care Act insurance plans cover gender-affirming care for adults as an essential health benefit. For transgender people who rely on hormone therapy to survive after bottom surgery, these new standards will force them to detransition or potentially die since everyone needs a dominant sex hormone. It has been proven that transgender people denied gender-affirming care face an elevated risk of suicide, making this budget harmful for the entire community.

Why It Matters: Trump’s budget doesn’t just reflect misplaced priorities—it exposes deep hostility toward the LGBTQ+ community, with transgender Americans taking the hardest hit. Stripping gender-affirming care from Medicaid and ACA plans is a calculated attack on a small, already vulnerable population—all to bankroll $4.5 trillion in tax breaks for the wealthy. It’s cruelty disguised as fiscal policy, hidden in a bill that does nothing to solve real problems like housing, inflation, or healthcare access. At its core, this budget treats trans lives as disposable, using them as scapegoats instead of addressing the challenges millions of Americans actually face.
