America’s Burning and Republicans Brought the Gasoline

Breaking (but not surprising) News: Our country is on fire and Republicans are to blame. While Republicans revel in the destruction, everyday people are left to burn. The news is more chaotic than ever and it's important to uncover the truth. Let’s recap everything you need to know and what all of this means for you.

 🚨 This Week’s Bullsh*t & Why It Actually Matters  📰

What Happened: The Trump Administration has invoked the Alien Enemies Act, a wartime measure passed in 1798, to speed up the deportation of potentially dangerous migrants. A federal judge temporarily suspended the use of the act for 14 days, yet the administration is continuing to deport hundreds of migrants under it. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries warns the careless employment of the act may lead to citizens and legal residents being unjustly deported.

Why It Matters: It’s clear the Trump Administration has no respect for the system of checks and balances that protects our democracy. Despite the apparent unconstitutionality of the administration’s actions, Republicans in Congress are doing nothing to stop it. This lack of oversight sets a dangerous standard for the next four years—telling Trump he’s allowed to push his extreme agenda without any regard for the rules. And now, the rights and livelihoods of Americans Trump wishes to deport are at risk with no Republicans in power willing to help.

What Happened: Trump’s desire to annex Canada has perplexed Republicans in Congress and Canadians alike. Taking interest in Canada’s natural resources and waterways, Trump has changed his relationship with Canada from diplomatic to threatening. Trump has privately joked about annexing Canada with former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau before, but now the jokes have become serious. Canadian politicians claim their nation can longer trust the United States after Trump’s recent tariffs and misleading claims about the benefits of Canadian statehood.

Why It Matters: Trump is chasing Canada's natural resources over principles. Ignoring the long-standing diplomatic relationship between the United States and Canada, Trump is pressing for the annexation of Canada—something no one supports but himself. Republicans in Congress, though some expressing their disagreement, are failing to stand up for the American people. The trade war started by Trump to achieve his goal has crashed the American stock market and catalyzed tit-for-tat tariffs. Americans will suffer under this pointless economic chaos, and Trump couldn’t care less.

What Happened: Trump is expected to sign an executive order to close the Department of Education, telling Secretary Linda McMahon to take “all necessary steps” to facilitate its dismantling. An act of Congress is required to fully close the department, but the Trump Administration can cut employees and make it nearly impossible for those remaining to do their work. The department only represents 4% of the U.S. budget and is one of the smallest Cabinet-level agencies.

Why It Matters: The Department of Education does not dictate the curriculum used in classrooms—something Trump continually lies about. The federal government may not provide the bulk of school funding, but that 8% it does contribute? It keeps low-income schools afloat, funds special education programs, and ensures millions of kids have access to school meal assistance. Without federal oversight, states could slash these programs entirely, leaving marginalized students with even fewer opportunities.

What Happened: Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth ordered the Pentagon to scrub content promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) from its websites. More than 24,000 articles are cleared for deletion—yes, 24,000—including stories from Holocaust survivors, LGBTQ+ service members, sexual assault victims, and veterans’ organizations supporting those in crisis. This includes historical documents on desegregation, civil rights milestones, and anti-extremism resources. While the Department is framing this as routine “website maintenance,” defense officials behind the scenes are calling it “careless” and raising the alarm over its sweeping collateral damage.

Why It Matters: Let’s be real—this isn’t about cleaning up broken links. This is about erasing the receipts. When a government starts purging civil rights milestones and DEI resources from public view, it’s rewriting history to fit a narrative that says equity never mattered and discrimination never happened. These aren’t just webpages—they’re documentation of hard-won progress, of moments when the government admitted it needed to do better. Deleting that sends a clear message: that era is over. This kind of historical whiteout makes it easier to justify dismantling DEI programs today and ensures future generations won’t even know what was lost.

What Happened: Elon Musk is using his $300 billion dollar net worth to support Republicans who blindly carry out his wishes and punish Democrats who don’t.  A new report reveals that Elon Musk’s financial and political influence over the Republican Party is growing fast—and not just through tweets. One of Musk’s close allies, investor David Sacks, recently launched a new super PAC aligned with MAGA Republicans, backed by Musk’s inner circle and donors. The group is funneling millions into campaigns and causes that reflect Musk’s ideological leanings—anti-DEI, anti-regulation, pro-censorship of the left, and deeply libertarian. At the same time, Musk continues to use X (formerly Twitter) as a propaganda tool, shaping narratives and amplifying far-right voices to his nearly 180 million followers.

Why It Matters: Musk isn’t just selling overpriced cars and launching rockets—he’s buying himself a seat in our government. With his unlimited bank account, Musk can sponsor and control the rhetoric of Republicans seeking office. He’s not just buying influence behind the scenes; he’s rebuilding the GOP’s tech infrastructure, reshaping right-wing media, and offering a global megaphone for conspiracy theories, authoritarian talking points, and culture war chaos. This isn’t just about donations—it’s about creating an entire ecosystem of Musk-aligned, anti-democracy ideology. And let’s be honest: if you can bankroll the party, dominate the platform, and bend public discourse with a single tweet, you’re not a donor anymore—you’re a kingmaker. Now, his and Trump’s extreme agenda and targeted attacks on civil rights can make their way into national, state, and local politics. The livelihoods of all Americans are in danger but Republicans don’t care as long as it meets their bottom line.

What Happened: The Social Security Administration is planning to require in-person identity checks for millions of customers to verify their bank information and age. Customers must visit a field office to fulfill this requirement, yet Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency is ordering the closure of field offices across the country. Alongside massive layoffs, these new protocols will delay services for those in need.

Why It Matters: Trump and Republicans in Congress are allowing Musk—an unelected official—to make it more difficult for Americans to receive their earned benefits. The required in-person checks are just another step in the Trump Administration’s plan to erase access to entitlement programs. Republicans are showing no compassion for Americans, namely those with disabilities, who cannot survive under limited social security programs.
